Tips To Create a Pet-Safe Garden

 In the quest of creating a perfect garden, we often forget our four-legged children.

1- Keep pets away during the application

If you use normal fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides, ensure that your pets are kept inside until the application is completely dried. 

Also, don’t forget to clean the area where the product is spilt.

2- Choose pet-safe fertilizer and mulch 

If possible, follow a pet safe weed control program. This is because organic fertilizers can be filled with blood, bone, and even fish by-products, smelling delicious but causing havoc within your pet’s stomach. Also, chemical-based weed killers that can prove toxic for your pet. It will be a good idea to use weed killers made from natural ingredients.

3- Get rid of toxic plants

Certain types of plant leaves can prove dangerous for pets when consumed. So, make sure to avoid growing or buying such plants. Here are a few plants that can cause health risks:

  • Oleander
  • Lilies
  • Azaleas
  • Laurels, etc.

4- Be extra careful with equipment

Store the garden equipment carefully because sharp blades can easily cut your pets. Also, when using one, such as a lawnmower, make sure your pet is locked inside to prevent any mishaps, especially if your pet is hyperactive.
